Honeybees Spotlight: Kristen By: Hornets.com | August 2, 2011
Hometown: New Orleans. Year as a Honeybee: Third.
Previous dance experience:
I started taking dance classes when I was 2 years old and continued studio dancing until I was 15. I was part of my high school’s dance team for four years and was captain my senior year. After high school, I worked for American All Star, Inc. for five years as a dance instructor during summer dance camps for junior high and high school girls. Needless to say, dance has been a huge part of my life and I’ve made some of my very best friends through dancing.
What I love about being a Honeybee:
Being a New Orleans Honeybee is hard work! It takes up 98 percent of my time and a lot of my energy. But it is worth it mainly because we are one of the best dance teams in the NBA. Our dances are complex, fast-paced and fun to watch. All of the girls genuinely love to dance, and it’s always rewarding to be around people who share the same passion. It is a huge honor to be on a team with so much talent. Not to mention, some of those very best friends that I made during my previous dance experience, are also Honeybees. I have so much fun goofing off with them, just like we did in high school. Sometimes it feels like we never grew up! I am also proud to be part of such a wonderful fan base. There is no other feeling like being on the court and sharing the excitement of the game with fans. New Orleans has amazing sports fans, and it is great to see everyone get in the game and cheer on the Hornets!
What I love about dancing:
I feel happiest when I am in front of a crowd, giving it my all and having fun. I love to see the crowd getting into the routine and having a blast too! I like to make people want to move with me and enjoy the music and performance, whatever it may be.
What I love about New Orleans:
I have lived in New Orleans all my life and don’t plan on leaving. From the people, to the food and music, there is no other place like it. I love representing such a resilient, beautiful and amazing city.
What I love to do when I’m not performing with the Honeybees:
This city is full of incredible restaurants and I want to try all of them! My new interest is going to restaurants I have not been to before and asking for the best item on the menu. I also love hanging out with my family and friends whenever I get a chance to. Unfortunately, I also make a hobby out of online shopping… But mostly, I love to snuggle in bed with a good book or movie because most of the time I’m a very busy bee.
